LA SALA TAKES PART IN THE EUROPEAN PROYECT “TRACEBACK” 14/10/2010

Within the helps programme of the VI Marco programme, the European macroproject TRACEBACK has as its main aim, the development of an innovative traceability system for the European foodstuff sector, which enables the efficient management of the traceability and a quicker intervention in case of food safety alarms.
Until now, in the traceability chain, analytic results indicating food dangers and risks are included, but these tests are done in external laboratories, where a sample has to be taken and the results take some days to be added to the management system. The aim of this proyect is to add new electronic devices like nanosensors and minilaboratories in a chip, which apply artificial intelligence techniques to analyze the data obtained from the microdevices, in order make these elements part of an automatically controlled chain, to reduce the risks and food danger to the minimum.
This macroproject is made up of 28 partners: technological centres, companies and universities from ten different European countries. The overall budget is of 16 million euros, where the EU finances 10 million euros.
In Spain, the traceability for the tomato food chain is being developed, in which Semilleros y Viveros la Sala, Pascual Marketing and Consum Cooperativa are participating, along with Ainia which coordinates the different activities.
